article imageOp-Ed: GE charging stations, does your town have one? Special

By Genevieve Julich     Jul 29, 2011 in Technology
Fairfield - The future of cars is here. A General Electric (GE) Charging Station has been added to a parking lot in Downtown Fairfield.
Walking around downtown Fairfield in CT I saw something I had never seen before. A GE (General Electric) Charging Station for an electric car.
After I saw it, I did a little research. Apparently, these charging stations have been installed in numerous places throughout the US and beyond.
These stations offer electricity, an alternative for plug-in hybrid cars or all electric vehicles.
On the US Department of Energy's website consumers can research and look up where the closed accessible charging station is for them. There seemed to be a lot more around than I thought at this point in time. Some as you can see on the link below are not yet installed but will be. The areas in which these stations are installed varies, some grocery store parking lots, some heavier populated parking lot areas.
This is one example of using electricity as an alternative fuel.
