article imageNFL: Kolb to Cardinals, Bush to Dolphins, Rice to Seahawks

By David Silverberg     Jul 28, 2011 in Sports
In a busy day of NFL trades and free-agency moves, quarterback Kevin Kolb will be playing for the Arizona Cardinals this season, and Reggie Bush is moving from New Orleans to Miami. Wide receiver Sidney Rice will show off his skills in Seattle.
Now that the NFL lockout is old news, trades and free-agent decisions are happening at a dizzying pace. First, we heard about QB Donovan McNabb being traded to the Minnesota Vikings, from Washington. Now, another quarterback is on the move.
Formerly of Philadelphia, Kevin Kolb will be gunning touchdowns for Arizona when the NFL season starts. The Eagles traded Kolb in exchange for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and an undisclosed scound-round draft pick. Kolb inked a five-year contract extension worth $63.5 million with $21 million guaranteed.
Kolb has been looking for a starter position since he lost the Eagles QB spot to Michael Vick last season. He did have a few standout games, though: against Atlanta, he completed 23 of 29 passes for 326 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
Another standout move today centered on running back Reggie Bush, who has been playing for the New Orleans Saint for his entire five-year career. Now Bush is taking his talents to South Beach. The Miami Dolphins have been looking for a solid running back to power their offense, and Miami's running backs - Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown - are now free agents.
Bush agreed to a two-year contract but no other details of the deal were disclosed.
Also, the Vikings star receiver Sidney Rice has been shipped to Seattle, where he agreed to a five-year, $41 million deal. Rice's 2010 season was paltry, due to injury: he made 17 receptions for 280 yards and two TDs. In 2009, he fared much better, hauling 83 catches for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns (all career highs).
In the rumour mill, Denver quarterback Kyle Orton may remain with the team, despite talks with Miami. Also, the Chicago Bears are reportedly thinking about trading tight end Greg Olsen, who is entering the final year of his contract.
