Malibu - Christopher Schwarzenegger, youngest child of former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, was hospitalized after he was seriously injured in a surfing accident in Malibu last weekend.
The story was first reported this morning by TMZ, who said Schwarzenegger "suffered multiple broken bones and a collapsed lung."
The incident was confirmed on Twitter this afternoon by Patrick Schwarzenegger, 17, who changed his name to Patrick Shriver on Twitter following the announcement of his father's infidelity. Patrick said in his tweet, "Thank you everyone for your messages about my brother. This kid is strongest kid I ever seen. Keep praying."
Katherine Eunice Shriver Schwarzenegger, eldest child of Shriver and Schwarzenegger, followed that tweet with a message of her own on Twitter that read, "Thank you guys for ur concern and prayers for my baby brother! He's a tough little guy and getting better! Please keep praying for him! Xo"
The accident reportedly happened while Christopher, 13, was boogie-boarding at the beach in Malibu while his mother looked on. TMZ reports Maria Shriver has not left her son's side since the accident.
Schwarzenegger, named Christopher Sargent Shriver Schwarzenegger, was "hospitalized and in ICU following the accident, and his condition had been upgraded," reported TMZ.
A report this afternoon by CNN said "Schwarzenegger slammed face-on into an object on a beach and was seriously injured" The news report further claimed the boy has been "moved from ICU into another unit in the hospital."
Christopher, who is the same age as Arnold's illegitimate child, has reportedly lived with Maria Shriver since the announcement of their separation in May. The soon-to-be divorced couple have agreed to a joint custody arrangement for their sons Patrick and Christopher.
