article imageOp-Ed: Charlie Sheen to star in TV show Anger Management

By KJ Mullins     Jul 18, 2011 in Entertainment
Los Angeles - Charlie Sheen is set to star in the new sitcom Anger Management if the series gets picked up. The show is based on the 2003 comedy by Revolution Studios.
Sheen will play a character loosed based on the Jack Nicholson character in the movie version. In the movie Nicholason was a therapist who lead anger management session even though he had serious anger issues himself.
"I chose Anger Management because, while it might be a big stretch for me to play a guy with serious anger management issues, I think it is a great concept," Sheen said in a press release from Lionsgate. "It also provides me with real ownership in the series, a certain amount of creative control and the chance to be back in business with one of my favorite movie producers of all time, Joe Roth."
Roth and Sheen have worked together several times in the past including the films Major League and Young Guns.
"We always look for series ideas that are noisy, accessible and relevant," said Lionsgate's Kevin Beggs. "Charlie Sheen in Anger Management takes those criteria to a whole new level and we are thrilled to be in business with him, Evolution, Debmar-Mercury and Revolution Studios on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. With a star of Charlie's magnitude, a producer as venerable as Joe Roth and a branded property as compelling as Anger Management, this show has unique upside while still adhering to our disciplined business model."
Sheen was most recently in the show Two and a Half Men where his salary was the highest of any actor on the small scene. He left the show after serious issues with show creator Chuck Lorre whom Sheen endeared with the term "contaminated little maggot." Sheen also called his co-star on the series Jon Cryer as a Troll during Twitter rants. Sheen allegedly was in a drug induced downward spiral yet remained in the public eye through self promotion. Terms like 'tiger blood', "Winning!" and "Adonis DNA" will forever be known as key phrases of the star.
With the news that Sheen could once again be in a television show one has to ask if people will tune in for the acting or to see if Sheen will have another meltdown. That is if any studio in Hollywood would want to take that risk.
