It only takes a second. On Saturday night a Brampton infant was killed when her uncle accidentally drove over the 16-month-old child.
For 11 years the parents of little Sarneet Kaur Takhar had tried to conceive. Finally 16 months ago their hopes were announced when their little girl was born on March 17, 2010.
Sarneet was born into a close knit family. Several members of the family, including her parents lived on the same Brampton street.
On July 16, 2011 their lives were shattered when their curious little girl exited the car she had been put in. Her uncle was unaware that Sarneet was behind his vehicle as he pulled out of the driveway to take her and her cousin to the park. He felt something as he slowly pulled out and stopped his car. Exiting the car to see what he had struck, Baljinder Dhaliwal was in shock. It was little Sarneet.
Her mother fainted. As a nurse she already knew the situation when she saw her child's broken bloody body living on the pavement.
Paramedics called to the scene rushed her to hospital. It was too late as doctors pronounced the little toddler dead upon arrival.
The close knit family is mourning their loss. No charges are expected to be laid in the case.
