article imageArnold Schwarzenegger to play border town sheriff in 'Last Stand'

By Leo Reyes     Jul 13, 2011 in Entertainment
Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to return to acting starting with his starring role as a border town sheriff in the Lionsgate film "Last Stand," to be directed by a Korean filmmaker.
It will be Schwarzenegger's first movie since stepping down as Governor of California, though he had a cameo role in "The Expendables" last year.
The movie is about a small town sheriff trying to stop a notorious drug cartel leader on the run. A source describe it as an old-fashioned western-style film designed for the 63-year-old ex-Governor.
Daniel Ketchell, spokesman of the former Governor, confirmed that Schwarzenegger will indeed appear in the reported movie in a lead role but did not elaborate on other details.
Schwarzenegger originated the ominous line "I'll be back" in the first "Terminator" film in 1984, and it has become his trademark phrase for all occasions.
Last May, the former governor said he was putting on hold his movie come back plans to focus on his personal and family problems.
This was followed by an announcement about the TV animated series "The Governator" being shelved for the same reason.
The former Governor and his wife Maria Shriver recently separated after Schwarzenegger admitted to having a relationship with the household staff member who served for him for more than 20 years. He said he apologized to his family for the secret love affair.
Early in May this year, the former Governor and his wife Maria Shriver announced their separation after 25 years of marriage, citing “personal and professional transition” for each of them, the couple stated in a joint statement.
"This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us," Schwarzenegger, 63, and Shriver, 55, said in a statement. "After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision together."
Last May, Schwarzenegger was reported to have been offered $40 Million to appear in two "Terminator" movies but on July 11, the actor's spokesman only confirmed his role in the "Last Stand."
Shooting for "The Stand" is reportedly set to start in September this year.
