article imageWarwick Davis joins Gervais and Merchant for 'Life's Too Short'

In Life's Too Short, the new show by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, Warwick Davis plays a self-centred "showbiz dwarf" running a talent agency.
"The show is a mockumentary blend between The Office and Extras about little-person actor Warwick Davis’s attempts to get back into the acting scene," reports Punchline.
The 30-minute pilot for the BBC2 show, which will also air on HBO, was successful and a full series will begin later this year.
Davis had parts in Harry Potter (Professor Filius Flitwick), Willow (Willow Ufgood) and Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi (an Ewok). He appeared in an episode of Extras in 2005.
"This is nothing to do with his height," Contact Music quoted Gervais as saying when speaking on the Absolute Radio Breakfast Show. "We're not getting jokes out of him being short all the time, we're getting jokes out of him being militant or ripping off other dwarves. He runs an agency, both in real life and in this one. In this one it's called Dwarves for Hire and of course he's just ripping them off. He's getting all the best jobs for himself and he treats them like commodities and props.
"It's not the real Warwick Davis, he's not really like that. We've created a character here, a little Mussolini (dictator). And it's not all jokes about his height, it's much more about his character."
The character Davis plays is taking part in the documentary to help pay of a large tax bill.
A message from Gervais, Merchant and Davis on the BBC website says: "Life's Too Short is an observational comedy, dealing with everyday problems, human foibles and social faux pas... but with a dwarf."
Something they found very funny was a fight scene.
"During the end of one take I think Ricky shouted 'Fight!' and they started fighting, and it was very, very funny," The Sun quoted Merchant as saying.
"Then, subsequently, if a scene's slightly flagging we'll just shout 'Fight!' and hopefully end it with a fight."
Speaking about Davis last year Gervais said, "Pound for pound he is one of the funniest men I know."
Life's Too Short will include cameos from Johnny Depp, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Sting.
