article imageSoccer: Beckham bends it like Beckham, scores from corner kick

By Christopher Bates     Jul 11, 2011 in Sports
Carson - Maybe it was a gift sent to (or from) his new baby daughter, who was hours away from birth on Saturday evening as David Beckham scored an incredible goal from a corner kick.
Beckham played a pivotal role in LA Galaxy's opener against a strong Chicago Fire team, assisting captain Landon Donovan in the 58th minute.
After the Fire equalized through Cristian Nazarit just four minutes later, their joy only lasted a mere three minutes.
Confidently holding his famous stance, Beckham loomed over the ball at the corner flag before perfectly curling it into the back of the net.
It's the second time Beckham has scored a goal from a corner - his first occurring during a loan spell at English club Preston North End in 1995.
The 36-year-old said: "I saw the goalie cheating a little out of goal and saw a gap. I knew if I put it in [the] area, it was going to get a touch off somebody or go straight in. Luckily, it went straight in."
Galaxy's unbeaten run now stretches to 12 games, as they lie four points adrift of Seattle Sounders at the top of the Major League Soccer (MLS) Western Conference.
Beckham now prepares to battle two of his former teams, as the Galaxy face Real Madrid on July 16, while the MLS All-Stars play Manchester United on July 27.
