With a quick Tweet Pope Benedict XVI let the world know that the Vatican's latest web site
is up and running. The new site functions as a news aggregator using social media and other sources.
"Dear Friends, I just launched http://t.co/fVHpS9y
Praised be our Lord Jesus Christ! With my prayers and blessings, Benedictus XVI
is in Italian and English featuring news stories. It will offer updates from social media serving as a news aggregator. The site will feature tweets from The Vatican, Facebook updates and YouTube videos.
The Vatican has been using social media in order to communicate with the public for quite some time. This morning the Pope himself was the one that launched the latest media tool of the Vatican. There are plans in the future to use the news portal as a way to live stream Papal events.
Although the Roman Catholic Church has a growing social media presence parishioners still have to go into their church once in a while. There was talk earlier this year of making an app
for confessions but church officials gave that idea the axe. Priests still need to hear the dirty deeds of the church's sinners in person.
