L.A. Lakers veteran Ron Artest is seriously considering changing his name, so much so he's started filing paperwork to officially become "Metta World Peace."
Ron Artest, a Lakers’ forward, is one step closer to changing his name. Artest has already filed the necessary paperwork with the Los Angeles County Superior Court so that he can change his name. Artest wants to change his name to “Metta World Peace” and he is serious about this.
Heidi Buech said that this is no rumor and that Artest really wants to change his name. Buech is a longtime publicist for Artest, according to LAtimes.
Metta means virtue of kindness for Buddhists.
The LA Times has the paperwork that Artest filed with the court. On the paperwork you can see that Artest clearly wants to change his name to Metta World Peace. The hearing is dated for August 26 2011 and the paperwork was filed on June 23rd.
Artest said that he wants to change his name due to personal reasons. Artest has not given any other reason for wanting to change his name other than that.
TMZ reported that Artest’s own wife did not even know that he was planning on changing his name.
Before settling on Metta, Artest was thinking about changing his name to Mr. One Love. He settled on Mr. World Peace because this name will have a bigger impact on the planet.
