article imageMadonna biography to be released as comic book

Madonna will soon be rubbing shoulders with superheroes like Batman and the X-Men when her life story is told in the pages of a comic book, hitting shelves this August.
Published by Vancouver, Wash.-based Bluewater Productions Inc., the 32-page one-shot issue is the latest addition to the company’s growing “Female Force” series—which focuses on the lives of strong, influential women who have made historical and cultural impacts, reports CNN.
The biographical comic book, with a cover price of $3.99, was written by CW Cooke and illustrated by Michael Johnson and will follow the burgeoning rise of the iconic pop-star, the Associated Press reported.
“Our goal is to show the little-known events and influences that resulted in Madonna becoming the phenomenon she remains to this day, more than a quarter-century after she burst upon the scene,” Bluewater vice president Jason Schultz is quoted as saying in the AP.
Schultz said the comic book medium was a fitting way in which to tell the star's story, chronicling her music career, as well as her involvement in fashion and charity.
“A visual medium provides perspective that is not only accessible, but more relatable to the average person without losing any of the information involved.”
With a strong, ongoing presence in the media since her musical debut in the early 80s, it’s not hard to see why the music legend was a natural choice for the series.
“Most pop stars owe everything to this woman,” said writer Cooke in a statement.
Other prominent women who have been featured in the “Female Force” series include Betty White, Sarah Palin, Angelina Jolie, J.K. Rowling, Ellen DeGeneres, Princess Diana, Michelle Obama and Barbara Walters.
An issue spotlighting Martha Stewart will be released in July.
“Female Force: Madonna” will be sold at most comic book shops and bookstores, and is available for pre-order online.
