Versace is following the lead of such high-end fashion houses as luxury brand Lanvin, with a newly announced collaboration with Swedish retail giant H&M.
Donatella Versace will be the latest addition to the company’s growing list of guest designers, with a Versace for H&M line set to be released this fall, CBS News reports.
“Versace is one of the most important brands of recent times, and their collection for H&M will be glamorous and flamboyant—everything Versace stands for,” H&M creative advisor Margareta van den Bosch said in a statement, quoted in the New York Daily News.
Shoppers can expect an affordable homage to the brand’s heritage with studded leather and colourful prints for women, sharp tailoring and tuxedos for men, as well as limited pieces for home, including cushions and bedding—a first for an H&M/designer collaboration—when the line hits stores and the web Nov. 17, announced H&M.
“The collection will be quintessential Versace, perfect for H&M and Versace fans everywhere,” the Italian designer is quoted as saying in Vogue UK.
The legendary fashion house has also prepared a pre-spring line for the clothing company, available online and in select countries on Jan. 19 of next year, reported the Huffington Post.
In 2008, the designer had dismissed the possibility of a diffusion line with the chain, saying that such a move wouldn’t make sense for the brand. Versace has since changed her stance, and is now enthusiastic about the pairing, The Daily Mail reports.
“I am thrilled to be collaborating with H&M and to have the opportunity of reaching its wide audience,” she said in a statement.
H&M has formerly teamed up with Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz, Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Comme des Garçons’ Rei Kawakubo, and Jimmy Choo. The partnership with Versace will mark their 11th designer collaboration.
A preview of the Versace for H&M collection has been posted on Vogue.com UK.
