article imageOp-Ed: 'Tiger' captured in zoo escape drill

By Christopher Bates     Jun 6, 2011 in World
Chengdu - Chengdu Zoo in Sichuan Province, China, recently staged a tiger escape. The actor? A human in a fluffy tiger costume! Possibly Tigger and Tony the Tiger's love child.
Although the ‘emergency’ was intended to help staff and police prepare for a real escape, there’s something about a human tiger that I (and probably most of the people involved) can’t quite take seriously.
The ‘tiger’ leapt from behind the bushes and strolled across the zoo’s walkways before rifle-armed officers stepped in to intervene, backing their furry friend into a state of surrender.
Amazingly, as a real tiger watched on in confusion, the 'animal' was shown smiling while carried away on a stretcher.
The 44-acred zoo in eastern China is home to over 250 species of animals.
