An athlete from Houston, Texas, says that he was attacked by guards for Patti LaBelle, and now is suing the singer over the incident.
Lawyers who represent a West Point cadet say that bodyguards for Patti LaBelle attacked him. Lawyers say a video was released Thursday and it shows the cadet waiting for a ride at an airport in Houston. The video shows two men and a woman punching and pushing the student from the U.S. military academy.
According to Chron, Richard King, 23, filed a lawsuit against LaBelle this week, as well as three people who were in her entourage, a taxi dispatcher who works for Bush Intercontinental Airport and the airport. King is seeking unspecified punitive damages relating to the incident that took place on March 11.
John Raley is King’s lawyer and he said that King was suspended because of what happened, and he was placed in a program that will require active duty status at a minimum if at least a year.
Thenydailynews says that King was talking on his cell phone and he was not aware that he was approaching LaBelle’s parked limousine. LaBelle apparently thought that King was too close to her luggage, and that is when LaBelle said something to her bodyguards and they took action.
According to, LaBelle’s career has spanned more than four decades and she has several hit records under her belt and she has won two Gammy Awards.
