Imelda Papin, the iconic Filipino singer dubbed as "sentimental songstress", wowed a huge audience of Filipino music lovers with her performance last night at International Convention Church.
With her signature "Bakit Ikaw Pa?" song, Imelda Papin further strengthened her professional monicker as the "sentimental songstress" of the Phlippines, during her concert at the International Convention Church on Railside drive in Toronto.
Papin belted original Filipino compositions and some English pieces that showed the range and intensity of her singing voice, easily making her the evening's favorite.
Part of the proceeds of the concert organized and led by Teresa Torralba will fund the purchase of dialysis machines in her home province to help poor kidney patients. Papin explained that dialysis treatment will be given free of charge to those patients.
Papin's Friday concert was a sort of a homecoming. Nine years ago, she visited Toronto and performed for the same mission that brought her back again.
Towards the middle part of the concert, Papin called on a guest in the audience, Mon Torralba, who was one of the original members of the popular singing band Hotdogs.
Torralba and Papin dueted on his own composition, "Pers Lab" - the hit song of the seventies and eighties.
