article imageKilling bin Laden: I would do it again – Obama

By Joseph Zulu     May 22, 2011 in Politics
London - US President, Barack Obama told BBC he would order another raid like the one which killed Osama bin Laden if necessary, to stop terrorist attacks.
“I’d take the shot” replied Obama when asked if he would do the same if the United States discovered another “high-value target” in Pakistan or another country.
This is despite that Pakistan authorities are still furious that United States sent Navy SEALs to raid Abbottabad, bin Laden’s compound, USA Today reported.
"We are very respectful of the sovereignty of Pakistan," but "our job is to secure the United States,” Obama told BBC during a Sunday interview.
Obama stressed that he would send troops again if a senior Taliban leader was found in Pakistan adding he would not allow their active plans to come to fruition.
He was speaking during the Andrew Marr Show, on BBC saying he hoped the raid would be a wake up call for more effective cooperative relationship with Pakistan, Today news reported.
It is still unclear as to which officials knew about bin Laden’s hide out and many Americans suspect bin Laden had official help in Pakistan.
"What we know is that for him to have been there for five or six years probably required some sort of support external to the compound," Obama said.
Obama further added that his administration is still investigating whether bin Laden’s help was non-governmental, governmental, a broad network or a handful of individuals.
The US president also said the SEAL team was exceptionally well prepared.
According to the guardian.co.uk, Obama describes the killing of Osama bin Laden as a powerful moment for America.
"I've always been clear to the Pakistanis – and I'm not the first administration to say this – that our job is to secure the United States," he said on BBC.
Obama said he made it clear when he was running for presidency that if he had a clear shot at bin Laden, he would take it.
He further said that raiding bin Laden was a calculated risk and the raid could have easily ended in disaster.
