German insurance company Munich Re hired prostitutes for a party they held in Budapest for their top sales representatives.
Munich Re, which provides insurance for insurance companies, calls itself "one of the world’s leading reinsurers."
A representative of one of their divisions, Ergo, told the BBC that there were 100 guests and 20 prostitutes at the party, which was held in 2007. He added that it was was not their usual way of rewarding temployees.
One the the guests who attended the party at the Gellert thermal baths told Handelsblatt that they were searched at the entrance and it was made clear that there were no photos of videos to be taken.
“The ladies wore red and yellow wrist bands," The Local quoted another guest as saying. "One group were there as hostesses, and the others were to fulfill any and every desire.
“There were also ladies with white wrist bands. They were reserved for the board and the very best salesmen.”
He said four-poster beds had been set up for their use.
“The ladies were marked with stamps on their forearms after each such meeting," he added.
The company released a statement to Handelsblatt, saying that the managers and the board member responsible for the event no longer work for them, but the paper added that many of the general reps and managers who attended the party still work for the firm.
"We've taken all the right steps to prevent it happening again," an Ergo spokesman told the BBC. "It was a mistake but we are very sure that it was a unique event.
"The new people of the sales organisation introduced a very personal commitment that these things should not happen again."
Those involved were not breaking the law, as prostitution is legal in Hungary.
Munich Re has offices in several countries around the world.
