New York - It took ten long years and four times playing on the reality show series Survivor for Rob Mariano to finally win the title of Sole Survivor. He played the game for 117 total days, longer then any other contestant.
Survivor Redemption Island was billed as the battle between Rob Mariano and Russell Hantz but it turned out to be all about 'Boston Rob' redeeming himself after failing at three previous attempts to win the game of Survivor.
Mariano had competed on the 'Survivor Marquesas,' 'All-Stars' and 'Heroes vs. Villains' seasons before challenging Hantz at the 'Heroes vs. Villains' finale to one more chance to go up against him and take home the coveted crown and the million dollar check.
To be successful during the 22nd season of Survivor, Mariano had to do three things, according to Addicted to Reality," Keep Ometepe together to vote off Zapatera one by one. Keep his girls happy. He just needs to keep Natalie Tenerelli and Ashley Underwood close to him until he gets to finale five. Keep former Federal Agent Phillip Sheppard. With Phillip by his side, he has a sure vote, and he also has someone crazy enough to agitate and aggravate everyone else. Keep him until the end, and no one will vote for him."
Mariano showed he was capable of doing all three and was awarded the title of Soul Survivor of Redemption Island after the jury votes were tallied. He also won fan favorite and another $100,000 over castaway Matt Elrod, the Tennessee native and Pre-Med student who spent almost 30 days alone on Redemption Island.
Mariano will appear on the Today Show Monday morning to receive his one million dollar prize.
