Washington - Calling pundits and politicians “amusing if not amazing,” one-time presidential hopeful and former Arkansas Gov Mike Huckabee announced on Saturday he will not seek the Republican nomination for president, narrowing the GOP presidential field by one.
“The pundits and members of the political class who have spoken with certainty about my decision to run or not for President in 2012 are amusing if not amazing to think that they knew what even I didn’t know until late this week,” Huckabee said in a statement late on Saturday.
Claiming that he loves his work at Fox News, Huckabee also noted his enjoyment in helping “good conservative, pro-life candidates” seeking to be elected to Congress, governorships, and other positions.
The former governor also stated his wife and family were very supportive of him, regardless of his decision.
Although “external signs” pointed toward a presidential campaign, Huckabee stated he had found “an inexplicable inner peace - a peace that exceeds human understanding,” leading to a resolution allowing him to say no over a run at being the country’s 45th president.
