Dallas - The Lakers lost game one with Mavs coming from behind in the fourth quarter, and game three had the same thing happen. Dallas already had a 2-0 lead, and the Lakers needed this game to have a chance at winning the series or even things out.
The Dallas Mavericks (57-25) hosted the Los Angeles Lakers (57-25) for game three of the seven game series, and the first game in Dallas. The Mavs came into game three up 2-0 and looking to keep home court advantage by winning game three at home. The Lakers were short handed with Ron Artest being suspended after his game two incident with J.J. Barea.
The Lakers jumped out to an 8-4 lead when Kobe Bryant made a jumper. Los Angeles kept the pressure on but Dallas got within two-points after a Jason Kidd three-pointer. Pau Gasol made a layup that gave the Lakers a 14-10 lead. Dirk Nowitzki made back-to-back three-pointers to give the Mavs a 19-16 lead and force Los Angeles to take a timeout.
Lamar Odom tied the game up at 20-points apiece as the Lakers went on to take a four-point lead. Tyson Chandler made a three-point play to tie the game up and give the Mavs a one-point lead. Peja Stojakovic made a jumper to give the Mavs a 29-24 lead. Pau Gasol ended the quarter with a three-point play to cut the Mavs lead to two-points.
Dallas opened the second quarter taking a 38-32 lead after a Jason Terry jumper that gave them a 38-32 lead. Shannon Brown made a three-pointer that got the Lakers within one-point 39-38. Both teams had trouble scoring for awhile till Dirk Nowitzki made a layup to make it a 41-38 lead.
Jason Terry made a three-pointer to push the Mavs lead to six. The Lakers then went on a 12-3 run that gave them a 50-47 lead with .41 seconds left in the half. The Mavs could not score to close out the second quarter. Shannon Brown made a free-throw to close the half out, and give the Lakers a 51-47 lead going into halftime.
Dirk Nowitzki opened the third quarter with a jumper. Kobe Bryant answered with a jumper of his own to give the Lakers a 53-49 lead. Pau Gasol made a jumper, and Derek Fisher made a three-pointer to put the Lakers up 58-51. Jason Kidd and Dirk Nowitzki hit three-pointers to get the Mavs within one-point. Dallas kept it close and tied the game up at 62 points apiece off a Tyson Chandler free-throw.
The Lakers pushed their lead to 70-64 with an 8-2 run that was finished with a Kobe Bryant jumper with .41 seconds left in the quarter. Jason Terry made a pair of free-throws to get the Mavs within four. Shannon Brown got a tip-in of a Bryant miss that gave the Lakers momentum going into the final quarter up 72-66.
Peja Stojakovic opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to make it a 72-69 game. The Lakers answered with a 7-2 spurt to give them a 79-71 lead. The Mavs did not score until Dirk Nowitzki made a jumper at the 7:24 mark. Peja Stojakovic made a three-pointer to get the Mavs within three-points.
The Lakers took an 85-78 lead with Pau Gasol making a jumper. Dallas then went on a run to take an 88-87 lead. Dirk Nowitzki started it off with a three-pointer, and Peja Stojakovic made one of his own. The run was capped off with Nowitzki making a pair of free-throws. Derek Fisher made a jumper to give the Lakers a one-point lead, but Jason Terry answered with a three-pointer to put the Mavs up by two-points with two-minutes left.
The Lakers played the fouling game to close the game out. Jason Terry finished shooting four free-throws to give the Mavs a 97-91 lead with .16 seconds left. Jason Kidd made one of two free-throws to seal the deal with the 98-92 victory.
Andrew Bynum led the Lakers with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Lamar Odom stepped in for Ron Artest and scored 18 points with six rebounds and three assists. Pau Gasol scored 12 points with eight rebounds.

Shannon Brown came off the bench to score 10 points as he was the only bench player to score in double-digits.
Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavericks with 32 points and nine rebounds. Jason Kidd finished with 11 points and nine assists.
Jason Terry led the Mavs bench with 23 points and Peja Stojakovic chipped in with 15 points.
The Dallas Mavericks has the chance to close the Lakers out with a win on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at 3:30 PM (EST) in Dallas. The Lakers have a chance to extend the series back to Los Angeles with a win on Sunday. If the Lakers don’t win they will be swept out the playoffs for the first time since 1997-1998 season when they lost to the Utah Jazz.
