article imageParents facing charges of murder and starving child in a cage

By Holly Goodwin     May 7, 2011 in Crime
Gloucester - Virginia police stumbled upon a caged girl who was naked and covered in bed sores and feces during a robbery investigation last Thursday.
The 5- or 6-year-old-girl was kept naked and caged since last summer in a modified crib that used a wooden board to keep her trapped inside. Police say that the girl was so hungry that she ate her own flaking skin. The parents claim that they fed the child a Pop Tart in the morning and another Tart or sandwich at night. According to the parents the child is 2-years-old and has both Down syndrome and cerebral palsy. They said that she was born at home and has no birth certificate.
After investigating the case police also found the corpse of another child buried near a shed on the parents' property. The autopsy and identity of the child is still pending. The girl and her younger sibling, a two-month-old healthy infant, were quickly placed into protective custody. Parent Brian Gore is out on bail of $1500 and his wife Shannon Gore is still in custody for the charge of felony child abuse. Prosecutor Robert Hicks called it "just the most horrible child abuse case.” The couple plans on pleading not guilty.
Brian Gore’s ex-girlfriend was shocked at the charges and said, "I really don't even know what to say." Likewise, the Myspace pages of the couple shows what would appear to be a happy family with phrases such as "Happiness isn't something you experience, it's something you remember,” and "proud parent."
