article imageNBA: Ron Artest suspended one game after hit on J.J. Barea

Los Angeles - Game two ended on a crazy note when Ron Artest came out of nowhere to take a swipe at Mavericks J.J. Barea. Barea was hit in the face and looked a bit woozy as Artest tried to hold him up.
The Dallas Mavericks were up with a 93-81 lead and about 24.4 seconds left in their game two win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Out of nowhere Ron Artest stretched out with his right arm and pushed it across Jose Barea’s face which looked like a clothesline from the WWE. Artest tried to hold him, but the refs immediately ejected him after giving him his second technical foul. The foul was classified a flagrant foul 2.
Well the NBA has spoken and Artest has been suspended for game three of the Western Semi Conference playoff round. The Lakers are already down 2-0 and with Artest gone they have now lost a player out of their starting lineup. Artest will not only miss the game, but he will also miss a check for his trouble.
After the game Charles Barkley said on TNT that he knew Ron Artest was going to do something uncalled for. He also called Artest arm across Barea’s face a punch, and said he should be suspended for a game.
Artest received his first technical in the at the 3:32 mark in the second quarter when he fouled Mavs Tyson Chandler. The Lakers plan to petition the league to get the first technical rescinded, but did not say anything about the second one on Barea.
Barea said he agrees with the league’s decision.
