article imageOp-Ed: Bin Laden Dead After Nearly 10 Year Hunt

By Oscar Brooks     May 2, 2011 in Politics
The world now knows that Osama Bin Laden is dead. It took nearly ten years, but the U.S. took out the man responsible for the bombings that killed over 2,000 people on September 11, 2001.
I was surprised when I saw the "Breaking News" on CNN and also on CBS network news Sunday night. It is certainly a time that we as Americans should be celebrating what has happened. We also know that terrorism won't stop because Bin Laden is dead. We have to be very wary of terrorism. Our lives in America were forever changed on September 11, 2001. Osama Bin Laden's actions are responsible for that. Even though it took almost 10 years to get him, it is still great news.
President Obama said during his presidential campaign he pledged that if he became president that he would capture and kill Bin Laden. He made good on that one. Of course, there was help from the intelligence community and other organizations involved including the government of Pakistan. A job well done by all involved. What kind of reaction is there going to be outside of the United States? We don't really know. I'm sure there will be some people who might dislike the U.S. for killing him. Bin Laden had 10 years to give himself up. It is obvious that he didn't plan on giving himself up and died trying to fend off those who killed him.
Let us not forget all the relatives and friends of those who died on 9/11. They lost loved ones who they will never see again. This doesn't lesson the blow of what happened to them. They live that day over and over again, every day of their lives they have to live with that horrible day. I pray and hope that this day gives them a little bit of joy and hope in their lives.
