President Barack Obama, shortly after 11:30 p.m. EST, announced the death of terrorist Osama bin Laden from the White House's East Room.
President Obama, in his speech from the White House, has announced that U.S. forces have killed Osama bin Laden in an Abbottabad, Pakistan mansion. Here's what the president had to say about how it was done:
"Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed."
Obama also referenced former President George W. Bush, saying the U.S. is not at war with Islam, but with terrorism and Al Qaeda.
The U.S. has take possession of the body. According to media outlets, cheering crowds have gathered outside the White House.
