Monday, May 2: The world of professional snooker could see the crowning of a new star as 21 year old Judd Trump took a three frame overnight lead against former three time World Champion John Higgins.
The last frame before the mid-session interval last night was Trump’s 9th Century of the tournament, and the 72nd this year. At this point he led by 7 frames to 5, and increased this to 10-7 at end of play. The best of 35 frame match will conclude today with the winner taking home not only the trophy but a cheque for £250,000, and the runner up half that.
BBC TV presenter Hazel Irvine and her celebrity commentators including former World Champions Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor agreed that this year’s tournament had produced some outstanding snooker, not least from Trump, but there was a touch of sadness as the death of former commentator
Ted Lowe was announced.
