article imageNBA: Dallas takes advantage of the Blazers to get a 103-96 win

Portland - Going into game six the odds were that the Blazers would win this game and the series would go back to Dallas. The home team has won in that series nine of the last nine times these two teams meet going back into this year’s regular season.
The Dallas Mavericks (57-25) went back to Portland to face the Portland Trail Blazers (48-34) for game six of this seven game series. The last time the Mavs were in Dallas the Blazers got a big game from Brandon Roy to tie the series up at two games apiece. The Blazers could not duplicate that energy as they lost to the Mavs 103-96.
Gerald Wallace opened the quarter with his won 9-5 run to give the Blazers an early lead. Wesley Matthews then made a three-pointer to spark a 10-2 run that gave Blazers a 19-7 lead. Matthews scored six points during that run then Wallace and LaMarcus Aldridge capped it off.
Dallas bounced back with an 8-0 run that got them within four, 19-15. The Blazers made another run to get ahead 25-17 with LaMarcus Aldridge making a jumper. Shawn Marion made a layup with .30 seconds left, but the Blazers ended the quarter with a 27-19 lead.
Brandon Roy made back-to-back jumpers to open the second quarter and give the Blazers a 31-19 lead. Peja Stojakovic was fouled while shooting a three-pointer and made all three to cut the Blazers lead down to nine-points. The Mavs got within four-points off a 9-0 run that made it 33-29.
The Blazers went cold and the Mavs took advantage s they tied the game up at 35 points apiece. Dallas took a 41-37 lead with three-pointers from Peja Stojakovic and Jason Terry. LaMarcus made a tip-in basket to get the Mavs within two-points. The Mavs ended with a 9-2 run to take a 52-43 lead into halftime.
Jason Kidd opened the third quarter with a jumper to give the Mavs a 54-43 lead. The Blazers tried to cut the Mavs lead down, and got it to nine when Gerald Wallace made a layup. Wallace made jumper and Andre Miller made a free-throw to make the score 59-52.
The Mavs went on an 8-0 run to give them a 67-52 lead over the Blazers. Brandon Roy made a three-pointer to give cut into the Mavs lead 69-56. Portland ended the quarter with a 6-0 spurt to get them within 13 to end the quarter.
The Blazers bounced back to open the final period with a 9-2 run that got them within six to make it 77-71. Mavs and Blazers traded baskets during the middle of this quarter and a three-pointer Jose Barea gave the Mavs an 86-77 lead.
The Blazers went on a 6-0 spurt to get within three of the Mavs and force them to take a timeout. Dallas pushed their lead back to six with Jason Terry making a jumper 91-85. The Blazers were down 95-89 with .54 seconds left in the game.
The Blazers played the free-throw game to close out the game as Dir Nowitzki went to he free-throw line four times and made all eight. The Blazers on the other side got a three-pointer from Wesley Matthews but they just didn’t have enough time left to pull off the victory.

Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavs with 33 points and 11 rebounds with a perfect 11-11 from the free-throw line. Shawn Marion scored 16 points with six rebounds. Jason Terry came off the bench to score 22 points with eight assists.
Gerald Wallace finally had a big game scoring 32 points with 13 rebounds to lead the Blazers. LaMarcus Aldridge scored 24 points with 10 rebounds and Wesley Matthews finished with 19 points.
The Mavs move into the second round to face the Los Angeles Lakers. Dallas may be getting some good news with the possible return of Caron Butler from his knee injury for the next series.
