Iconic pop star Lady Gaga is once again using her power in the music industry for a good cause by teaming up with Robin Hood Foundation, a charity that donates towards the homeless youth of New York.
Yesterday, Lady Gaga posted on her Facebook page,
Lady Gaga and the Robin Hood Foundation are partnering to donate $1 million to support organizations that help disconnected youth in NYC. Learn more about each of the organizations and cast your vote on who should win the donation at http://bit.ly/GagaRobinHood!
People can vote for charities including The Door, Safe Horizon, SCO Family of Services, Lawyers for Children, or The Hetrick-Martin Institute.
Executive director of The Hetrick-Martin Institute said,"In a world where lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth have been relegated to the sidelines and all but ignored, Lady Gaga lends her voice to these young people and demands their needs be heard through the powerful forum of social media that is Facebook."
Whichever charity wins first place will be awarded $500,000 over a two-year period. Second place receives $250,000 and the remaining money will be dispersed among the rest of the charities.
"I'm thrilled to be working with the Robin Hood Foundation to distribute funds to help the youth of New York City," Gaga said. "NYC is my hometown and I think investing in these kids' future will go a long way."
The results will be announced on May 9 at the annual Robin Hood Foundation benefit, where Lady Gaga will be performing.
