A pollster for the Federal election called police when they noticed a foul odour coming from a Manor Road and Mt. Pleasant Road area home Sunday afternoon.
The Toronto police and fire department responded to the call. Once inside they were meet by 50 to 60 cats inside the home. The odour came from cat feces and urine.
Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (OSPCA) has been notified and are helping with the investigation.
On Monday a number of the cats were rescued with the consent of the owner for their protection.
Diane Way, 63, has been charged with cruelty to animals and causing or permitting unnecessary suffering to animals.
