New Orleans - Each team has now won two games with each team winning one game at home and on the road. The Hornets played a near perfect game last night as they pulled off a big win to even the series up and give themselves to close the series out on their home floor.
The Los Angeles Lakers (57-25) returned to New Orleans to play game four of their seven game series with the New Orleans Hornets (46-36). The Lakers have now gotten to big games from Pau Gasol, but it was not enough as Chris Paul took this game over and willed the Hornets to victory.
The Lakers jumped out to a 9-4 lead with Ron Artest making a three-pointer and Pau Gasol hitting a jumper. The Lakers got their lead to 17-8 with 5:58 left in the opening quarter. The Hornets bounced back to get within one with a 10-2 run that made it 17-16.
The Lakers had a 19-16 lead with 2:31 left in the period. Both teams traded baskets, but the Lakers kept the lead to end the quarter with the score 25-22.
Carl Landry and Aaron Gray gave the Hornets an early lead in the second quartet. The lead did not last long as the Lakers took a three-point lead 31-28 off a pair of Lamar Odom free-throws. Aaron Gray made a layup to get the Hornets within one 34-33. The Lakers took a five-point lead as when Ron Artest made a layup to make it 40-35.
The Lakers pushed their lead to seven when Ron Artest made a three-pointer to make it 45-37. Carl Landry made back-to-back baskets to spark a 8-0 run that tied the game up at 45 points apiece. Chris Paul made a pair of free-throws and Emeka Okafor made a jumper to give the Hornets a 49-45 lead going into halftime.
New Orleans started the second half with a three-pointer from Chris Paul which continued a 15-0 run from the second quarter to give them a 52-45 lead. The Lakers scored to cut into the Hornets lead, but Marco Belinelli made a three-pointer to push it back to seven points. The Lakers then got a pair of free-throws and a jumper from Kobe Bryant to get them within one.
The score was 61-60 and Pau Gasol tied the game up when he made 1 of 2 free-throws. D.J. Mbenga gave the Hornets a 65-63 lead, but Derek Fisher answered with a long jumper to tie the game up. The Hornets ended the quarter with a layup from Carl Landry and a pair of free-throws from Chris Paul to give them a 69-67 lead to end the quarter.
Shannon Brown tied the game up at 69 points apiece to open the fourth quarter. Chris Paul made a three-pointer and Trevor Ariza made 1 of 2 free-throws to give the Hornets a 73-69 lead. The Lakers got within two and Willie Green made a three-pointer as the Hornets scored the next six points to take a 79-71 lead.
With 4:24 left in the game the Lakers were down 81-78, and Chris Paul answered with a pair of free-throws to make it 83-78. Derek Fisher got them within three with a pair of free-throws of his own.
Things got scary for Los Angeles Lakers when Kobe Bryant rolled his ankle while guarding Willie Green. Green made a drive to the basket, and while Kobe tried to keep up he rolled his ankle and fell into Green and was called for a foul. Phil Jackson tried to take Kobe out, but he refused to leave the floor. He finally went out and Green made 1 of his 2 free-throws.
The Lakers took a timeout after the free-throws and Kobe Bryant came right back in the game. Chris Paul made a pair of free-throws to give the Hornets an 88-82 lead. Lamar Odom was fouled with .33 seconds left and he made his free-throws to get the Lakers within two.
Chris Paul brought the ball up the court and dribbled to take some time off the clock. Paul waited till about .13 seconds with he dished it off to Jarrett Jack who made a fade-away basket to give the Hornets a 90-86 lead. Pau Gasol got a dunk with .8 seconds left to get the Lakers back with two.
Jarrett Jack made a pair of free-throws to give the Hornets a 92-88 lead. Kobe Bryant missed a three-pointer and Jack finished the game with a free-throw.
The Lakers had all their starters score in double-digits with Kobe Bryant leading with 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds. Ron Artest and Pau Gasol both had 16 points apiece and four rebounds apiece. Andrew Bynum had 11 points with nine rebounds and Derek Fisher scored 10 points.
Chris Paul got a triple-double to lead the Hornets with 27 points, 13 rebounds and 15 assists. Trevor Ariza scored 19 points and six rebounds with Carl Landry scored 16 points with seven rebounds.
Chris Paul outrebounded all of the Lakers even the Lakers big guys 13 rebounds total.
The series is now tied 2-2 and both teams are on their way to Los Angeles for game which will be played Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 10:30 PM (EST).
