New York - The New York Knicks hosted a playoff game for the first time since 2004, and the Fans were ready as they had MSG rocking. Boston came in leading 2-0 and is looking to get some rest if they can sweep the Knicks out of the playoffs.
The New York Knicks (42-40) hosted the Boston Celtics (56-26) for game three of this seven game series. The Knicks came into this game down 2-0, and looking to get their first win since they won game three against the Toronto Raptors 97-89 in the 2001 NBA Playoffs. The last time they won a playoff series was when they beat the Miami Heat in the 2000 playoffs 4-3.
Boston jumped out on the Knicks to a 15-5 lead with a Paul Pierce three-pointer. The Knicks took a timeout, but the Celtics stretched their lead to 22-5. The Knicks scored the six points to make it 22-11 before Boston took a timeout.
The Knicks battled back as they began to cut into the Celtics lead with a Shawne Williams three-pointer. New York then finished the quarter with a 4-0 run to end the quarter down 27-20.
New York battled back with to get within five on with a Shawne Williams three-pointer. The Celtics responded by pushing their lead to ten when Ray Allen made a three-pointer to make it 40-30. The Knicks cut the Celtics lead to five with a Shawne Williams jumper.
The Celtics pushed their lead back to ten with a 5-0 spurt to make it 47-37. Boston then pushed their lead to 50-39 when Ray Allen made a three-pointer. The Knicks then went on a 5-2 run to end the quarter. The Celtics went into halftime with a 52-44 lead.
Ray Allen opened the second half with a three-pointer to give the Celtics an early 11-point lead. Paul Pierce back-to-back three-pointers and Ray Allen made jumper to give the Celtics a 63-50 lead. The Knicks took a timeout, but the Celtics pushed their lead to 15 points with a Jermaine O’Neal jumper.
The Celtics went on a 13 -3 run that gave them an 82-59 lead with 2:10 left in the period. Jared Jefferies and Roger Mason scored two-points apiece, but Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo responded with buckets of their own to close out the quarter with an 84-63 lead for the Celtics.
New York opened the final period by cutting Boston’s lead to 16 points with a Toney Douglas three-pointer. Paul Pierce made a three-pointer to make it 91-72 before New York took a timeout. Ray Allen made a three-pointer and Paul Pierce made a jumper to give the Celtics a 20 point lead 96-76.
New York tried to put up a fight to end the quarter, but the Celtics continued to poor on the three-pointers from Ray Allen and Paul Pierce who hit back-to-back threes to give the Celtics a 109-86 lead. The Knicks went on a 10-2 run that made the game 111-96. That was the closes the Knicks with 1:20 left in the game as Glen Davis was the last one to score in the game with a jumper.

Paul Pierce led the Boston Celtics in scoring with 38 points, and Ray Allen scored 32 points on 8-11 shooting from behind the arc. Rajon Rondo got his sixth career-playoff triple-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 20 big assists. Kevin Garnett had 12 rebounds with nine points.
The Knicks got 15 points from Carmelo Anthony and Toney Douglas, but Melo added 11 rebounds and six assists. Amare Stoudemire was a game tie decision do to his back spasms, and you can tell he was still hurt as he struggled with just seven points and three rebounds.
Shawne Williams led the Knicks with 17 points off the bench as the bench did most of their scoring. Jared Jefferies scored 12 points and Roger Mason scored 10 points. The Knicks got 52 of their 96 points from the bench.
Boston has one more game in New York and if they win this game they will sweep the series. The Knicks and Boston will play game four on Sunday, April 24, 2011, and if the Knicks pull off a victory they will play game five back in Boston on Tuesday, April 26, 2011.
