article imageWhite House replica offered for sale for $4.6 million

Mclean - The White House has been listed for sale for $4.6 million by a Fairfax Realtor, but not the famous one located in the nation's capital at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. This exact replica of the President's home sits in Virginia and is nearly one-of-a-kind.
The gated home, shown in this slide-show, was built by a Vietnamese immigrant who came to the United States in the 1970s after completing his education in engineering and philosophy in New Zealand.
The blueprints for the home were drawn to one fifth the scale of the existing White House, that was designed by Irish-born James Hoban to serve as the residency and principal workplace of the President of the United States.
The construction and design of the replica took five years from start to finish in 1996 and was built as a tribute to the new country the owner had chose to make his home and a place he quickly grew to love.
Chu Nguyen, the Realtor who is marketing the property, and himself an engineer said to WUSA9 News "He is amazed with the solid structure and it's intricate design, which includes the same 14-foot high ceilings and unique crown molding that can be found in the White House."
According to the listing sheet the home offers six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, and two half baths. There are six fireplaces and over 12,000 square feet of 'Presidential living' complete with Oval Room, Lincoln State Room and the Truman Balcony, which was added to the South Lawn portico at the White House in 1948 amid much controversy.
It has a gym, a wine cellar, recreation room, a library, a home theater, an elevator, custom marble work, hardwood floors and 22 skylights. There are separate quarters for the staff and a party room for 100.
Nguyen told Peggy Fox of Channel 9 news that "He was surprised his client and friend would want to sell the beloved home he put so much of himself into, but has a good, common sense reason. It's just him and his wife. They're empty-nesters. He is feeling a sense of isolation living in such a big house."
Fox said "The price is higher than the median price of homes in the 22102 zip code, which is $2,250,000. Still, they've had some nibbles after being listed for one week. Nguyen says former Redskin Lavar Arrington inquired about the property but wasn't interested because he wanted more land. The White House in McLean is on 1.6 acres."
