It seems that President Obama's birth certificate question will not go away, and while those who openly question Obama's citizenship and subsequently his legitimacy to hold the highest office in the US are commonly derided as disaffected "birthers," the matter was addressed again, this time by real estate baron Donald Trump.
Trump is publicly mulling the idea of a Republican presidential candidacy, although he has yet to make a decision either way.
Speaking on ABC's hit daytime talk show, "The View," Trump insisted Obama should come forward with the proper birth certificate documentation.
"Why doesn't he show his birth certificate," Trump asked,
according to a Business Insider report. "There's something on that birth certificate that he doesn't like."
As reported by
The New York Times earlier in March, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee said that he would
"love to know more" about where President Obama was born, suggesting Obama was not born in the United States.
Meanwhile,
The Republic reports that lawmakers are
working to establish legislation that would require President Obama and future presidential candidates to show their birth certificates. Legislation requiring birth certificate disclosures has also been supported in New Hampshire, as
New American notes.
The US Constitution requires that the president be a natural-born citizen.
While documents have been released that suggest President Obama was born in Hawaii, official birth certificate documentation has yet to be demonstrated by the White House.
