Mar 21, 2011 in Driving
On Friday night the driver of a silver 1999 Porsche 944 thought he was being asked to exit his car by a police officer instead found a car thief driving away into the night.
Halton Regional Police report that the driver was on a county road in Campbellville when he was signaled by another vehicle following him to pull over. The victim did so and exited his car when instructed to by a man holding himself out to be an officer. As the victim left his car the suspect jumped into the Porsche and sped off.
The suspect is described as a male Caucasian in his 30's. He was 6' with a muscular build. He was wearing dark clothing with a silver beaded chain that had a gold badge in an attached leather holder.
The suspect approached the victim in a medium sized sedan with a flashing blue light on the front of the car.
HRPS warns motorists to be cautious on remote areas late at night. If signaled to stop by another car and are suspicious continue driving slowly until you are in a well lit area and then keep your windows and doors locked while asking for police identification. Officers should have a badge and photo ID with them. Drivers can also call 9-1-1 to reach the police in this situation.
