Singer Wyclef Jean was treated and released from hospital in Haiti Saturday after being shot in the hand. The incident took place while he was in the nation giving his support to presidential candidate Michel Martelly.
Jean was with singer Busta Rhymes and record executive Jimmy Rosemond in Port Au Prince when the shooting occurred. His management team tweeted on Jean's Twitter account that the singer is doing well.
"We have spoken to Wyclef, he is ok. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers."
The shooter has not been caught.
The election that is taking place today in Haiti will elect either Martelly and former first lady, Mirlande Manigat as the new president. The polling stations are reported to have opened late this morning. MSNBC reports that some stations were still setting up after the 6 a.m. start time.
Both candidates promise to make education universal, build homes and bring forth economic growth. Results from today's election are not expected to be in until later in April.
