Los Angeles - American Idol completed another week of eliminations with a star-studded line-up of entertainment featuring the Black Eyed Peas and former season 9 Idol winner Lee DeWyze debuting their new singles on the hit show.
After a rocky start that included major sound problems on the weekly broadcast of American Idol, the Top 12 contestants performed a duet of Steppenwolf's 'Born to Be Wild' and Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way.'
This week was all about birth and 'being born to be an Idol' with the twelve remaining contestants performing songs recorded by 'their idol' from the year they were born. Performances ranged from Nirvana to Elton John, according American Idol.
Some of the highlights included 16-year-old Scotty McCreery performing Travis Tritt's 'Can I Trust You With My Heart," and Pia Toscano singing 'Where Do Broken Hearts Go' by Whitney Houston. Randy Jackson said "Pia was in it to win it."
Host Ryan Seacrest announced this weeks fan voting, which included the new Facebook online voting option, was the highest yet in number of votes cast.
Naima Adedapo, Haley Reinhart and Karen Rodriguez found themselves in the bottom three this week when the votes were tallied and announced by Seacrest.
After performances by former Idol Lee DeWyze who unveiled his new single 'Beautiful Like You' and a special appearance by the Black Eyed Peas, who sang 'Just Can't Get Enough' off their sixth album, the results everyone was waiting for were announced.
The video for 'Just Can't Get Enough' was filmed in Japan the week before the earthquake and tsunami hit the now struggling country.
Safe this week were Idol contestants Scotty McCreery, Pia Toscano, Lauren Alaina, Jacob Lusk, Casey Abrams, who was hospitalized last week, Thia Megia, Paul McDonald, Haley Reinhart, James Durbin, Stefano Langone and Naima Adedapo.
McDonald is this seasons nominee on the website "Vote for the Worst." Whether this will translate into a 'longer stay' on the show or not remains to be seen.
Karen Rodriguez, who sang 'Love Will Lead You Back' by Taylor Dayne was the lowest vote-getter in this week's fan poll. Rodriquez, who was a judges wild-card pick two weeks, was given one more opportunity for a save by judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson. She sang Mariah Carey's 'Hero' in both English and Spanish but it wasn't enough for a judges reprieve.
Randy Jackson said "the vote to send her home wasn't unanimous, but with two out of three in agreement the judges would not use their save."
The eleven remaining contestants will return next Wednesday night for another round. If you missed this weeks performances they can be viewed on the American Idol website.
