Toronto - Toronto website Torontoist, an online news source, has been acquired by St. Joseph Media. The Torontoist was founded in 2004 and has an average of 200,000 unique visitors a month.
The site recently won a National Magazine Award, the first digital-only publication in Canada to do so.
Torontoist's publisher Ken Hunt explains, "St. Joseph Media is the perfect home for Torontoist. It is a company where we will be able to retain the independent streak that makes Torontoist great, while having the support we need to grow and flourish. I couldn't be more excited for what the future holds."
Today the Torontoist along with St. Joseph Media made the announcement. Publisher Ken Hunt wrote in a note that he had feared that the publication would have to be shut down over two years ago as the economy came apart at the seams. He assured his readers that the on-line magazine will remain the same and that the editorial team has not changed.
St. Joseph Media also owns Toronto Life, Quill & Quire, Canadian Parenting and other titles.
