Young girl's body found in Southwestern Ontario creek

By Carolyn E. Price     Mar 15, 2011 in World
The body of an eight-year-old who fell into a creek behind her home 9 days ago has been found by the Ontario Provincial Police.
Kayla Maybee was out playing with her older sister and another one of their friends when tragically, she disappeared into Gentleman Creek just behind her home in Middlesex County, Southwestern Ontario. Police divers were immediately dispatched to search for the little girl, however, 680news.com reported that the search had to be suspended that first night due to poor weather conditions.
It is being reported that melting snow and rain om Saturday, March 5, had created slippery creek banks which caused Little Kayla to slip and fall into the creek near her home, just outside the small town of Melbourne, Ontario.
TheStar.com is reporting that provincial police found Kayla's body Monday afternoon, after they had been searching the area, off and on, around the creek as well as in the creek itself. K9 units and members of the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department had all assisted in the OPP's search and recovery efforts.
It was also reported that the official search was called off last week when the ice jammed up at the end of the creek where it merged with the Thames River, causing the creek waters to rise and conditions too dangerous for the OPP divers to continue searching.
