article imageNBA: Celtics end two-game skid with dominating win over Bucks

By Kristofor Molson     Mar 14, 2011 in Sports
Boston - The last time these two teams played the Celtics were on a four game losing streak, and the last time the Celtics won a game was against this same team a week ago. This time these two teams played the Celtics did it with defense.
The Boston Celtics (47-17) took on the Milwaukee Bucks (26-39) for the second time in a week, and for the last time in this season series. The last time they meet it was a pretty close game with the Celtics coming out with an 89-83 win. They have now swept the season series 3-0 and maybe have dashed the Bucks playoff chances in the process with their impressive 87-56 shellacking.
Boston came out the gate with very stifling defense that gave them an early 10-2 lead with 7:11 left. Both teams played great defense, but the Celtics could not capitalize and the Bucks just had trouble getting it in the basket. Mbah a Moute finally scored again for the Bucks at the 6:52 mark with a layup to give them a total of four points. The Bucks first score came at the 10:11 mark on a Bogut jumper.
The Celtics ended the period on a 10-5 run that made the score 20-9. Mbah a Moute ended the period with a three point play.
Green opened the second quarter with five straight points of his own, but a Dooling 3-pointer made it 25-13 with just over eight minutes to play. The Bucks tried to get back in scoring seven straight points that included the 3-pointer by Dooling, but Krstic pushed back to ten with a jumper. It sparked an 8-0 run a made the score 33-17 and forces a Bucks timeout.
Boston continued on that run as they scored six more points to make it a 14-1 run, where the Bucks only scored on a technical free-throw by Jennings for a Garnett illegal defense foul. Bogut scored the final four points going into the half to make it a 39-22 deficit for the Bucks.
The Bucks avoided the NBA record for fewest points in a half. The two field goals from Bogut in the final minute of the second quarter pushed Milwaukee's score from 18 to 22. They ended up being just three better than the league record for ineffectuality. It tied the Bucks' franchise low and was the fewest scored in a half against the Celtics ever.
Only one player scored in double-digits for the Bucks, and that was Earl Barron who scored 10 points in 10 minutes off the bench.
Brandon Jennings and Andrew Bogut both scored just eight points, and Bogut had eight rebounds. Luc Richard Mbah a Moute scored seven points with seven rebounds. Kenyon Dooling added seven off the bench.
Milwaukee had more turnovers than field goals in the first half. They had nine turnovers and just eight field goals, and were outrebounded by Boston 27-17.
Ray Allen led the Celtics and the game in scoring with 17 points going 2-2 from behind the arc as no one in this game scored over twenty points. Paul Pierce scored 14 points and Nenad Krstic had a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Kevin Garnett had eight points and eight rebounds while Rajon Rondo had two points, three steals, three rebounds, and three assists.
Troy Murphy scored 12 points and seven rebounds and Jeff Green added 11 points. Glen Davis had nine points and seven rebounds in his first game back since hurting his knee last month.
The Celtics kept their defensive presents to open the third quarter, but Carlos Delfino scored his only basket when he made an early 3-pointer. The score was 45-27 and Jennings hit a 3-ponter to cut the Boston lead to 15 points. The Celtics answered with a 14-4 run to make the score 60-34.
The Bucks scored four points in the final .30 seconds to make it 60-38 going into the final period.
Even with all the Celtics’ starters resting for the most of the fourth quarter the Bucks could not cut the lead down. Boston went on a 13-0 run in the final period. The Bucks scored just 18 points in the period as the Celtics finished with 27 points.
The Bucks were on a three game winning streak coming into this game, and had a big 102-74 win over the Philadelphia 76ers yesterday.
