New York - The Knicks took a three game road trip going 1-3 only beating the Miami Heat 91-86, and losing to the Cleveland Cavs 115-109 and the Orlando Magic 116-110. This loss to the Knicks puts the Hornets on a three game losing streak.
The Charlotte Hornets (35-28) visited the New York Knicks (31-78) for the second time this year and the Knicks have now won both games in this season series. Chauncey Billups got hurt in the lost the other night to the Orlando Magic, and Douglas had to step up.
The game opened up real competitive for both teams as Knicks got the biggest lead early of six, but the Hornets knocked that down fast to take a one point lead Okafor jumper. The lead went back and forth as the Knicks got the lead back on an Anthony layup and a Stoudemire jumper. The Hornets got back ahead but Douglas knocked down a three to give it right back to the Knicks which helped them close the period with a 27-25 lead.
The second quarter the Hornets got close, but the Knicks keep them at bay with a good offensive team performance. The Knicks pushed their lead to seven, but they could not get it bigger than that early. Jack hit a jumper to make it a two point game, but Stoudemire and Fields kept the Knicks ahead.
The Knicks then went on a 13-3 run to finally get a big lead of twelve in the game with .13 seconds left. The Hornets called a time out and Paul hit a jumper at the buzzer to knock the Knicks lead down to ten going into halftime.
The starters for the Hornets had a horrible game with only David West scoring 16 points. The leader in scoring came off the bench and that was Jarrett Jack who scored 21 points and Quincy Pondexter came off the bench as well to score 14 points. Chris Paul had ten assists but only scored four points and Emeka Okafor had just eight points and eight rebounds.
Tony Douglas and Amar'e Stoudemire scored 24 points and Carmelo Anthony chipped in with 22 points. Landry Fields scored 10 points and Shawne Williams came off the bench to score 16 points.
The Knicks started out the quarter taking advantage of the Hornets as they up eight early in the third period. The Knicks than got a three-point play from Anthony and two baskets by Douglas in an 11-2 run that extended the lead to 63-46. The Hornets would not go away as they cut it to 11, only to have the Knicks bounce back with Williams making two 3-pointers and a layup. Stoudemire scored two buckets in a 12-2 surge that gave New York a 77-56 lead with 2:46 left in the quarter. The Knicks ended the quarter with a 20 points lead due to 11 points in that period.
The fourth quarter began and it was all but a formality for the Knicks as Anthony sat the whole fourth quarter and the reserves did their job. The Hornets had no answer as the Knicks continued to score at will.
The only bright spot for the Hornets in the final period was Pondexter scoring 12 of his 14 points.
