Charlotte - Members of the National Democratic Committee received word via email this morning, sent by First Lady Michelle Obama, of the location for the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
Charlotte, NC has won the 2012 Democratic National Convention. It will be the first time that North Carolina has played host to one of the Nation's major nominating conventions, according to NPR.
The Charlotte Observer quoted from the First Lady's message, "I am thrilled to make sure you are the first to hear some very exciting news," wrote Mrs. Obama. "Charlotte, North Carolina will host the 46th Democratic National Convention in 2012."
"Charlotte is a city marked by its southern charm, warm hospitality, and an 'up by the bootstraps' mentality that has propelled the city forward as one of the fastest-growing in the South. Vibrant, diverse, and full of opportunity, the Queen City is home to innovative, hardworking folks with big hearts and open minds. And of course, great barbecue."
Other considerations were Minneapolis, Cleveland and St. Louis.
The Republican party will hold their National Convention in Tampa, FL.
