Body of husband stored in freezer found after death of wife

By William Charles Baker     Jan 28, 2011 in World
Carlsbad - The remains of a man who died in 1997 were found in a freezer in Carlsbad New Mexico. It was placed there by his wife so she could continue to collect his pension.
The children of Barbara Sharpe who is now deceased found the body in a freezer in her bedroom in a mobile home they were clearing out after her death in November 2010. Information about her husband James is being investigated. Authorities are checking if he was a Pennsylvania police officer at one time.
Barbara left a letter concerning her husband and before her death had made mention of the freezer to a nurse who had been taking care of her.
KRQE reports: “Detectives said a nurse who cared for her has come forward. She said Sharpe told her that she stored her husband's body in the freezer and left a letter explaining why. Investigators said in the letter, Sharpe said the body is her husband, James, who disappeared 1997. She claimed he died of natural causes but she didn't report it because she needed his pension money.”
At one time it was thought it might be animal remains and even though the letter indicates her husband died of natural causes there will be an investigation to determine the actual reason. A terminal illness has not been ruled out yet. In addition it is reported that in spite of the body in the freezer Barbara had a live in boyfriend from 2003 who bought the house after her death. He claims no knowledge of any of the events.
KSDK reports: “The state Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque will rule on the cause of death.”
