The vice president of the United States, Joe Biden, was recently called to jury duty. Biden is the most recent official of the Obama administration that has been called to jury duty. Attorney general Eric Holder was called to jury duty, and so was Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan,.
The White House released a press release, and said that Joe Biden reported for jury duty today at a courthouse located in Wilmington, Delaware. Joe Biden was not picked for a jury, just like Holder and Justice Kagan.
Biden said that he is not different than anybody else, and he went on to say that he felt that it was an honor to be part of the system.
Biden also has another obligation, and that is to attend the state of the union address on Tuesday night. If Biden missed the speech on Tuesday then the senator of Hawaii, Dan Inouye, would have taken Biden's place at the speech.
Joe Biden was not alone in the jury assembly room. Biden waited in the assembly room with several secret agents. When break was called, security staff and other officials poured in from a side door so they could have a word with Biden. During the break Biden made a few phone calls, including a call to the president.
A little after noon, prospective jurors and Biden were dismissed.
