Going to your local Starbucks in the United States could be a bit different for those with Blackberrys and iPhones after today. The Starbucks Card Mobile App allows for mobile payment at almost 6,800 locations.
The fastest way to pay is only being offered at U.S. stores in over 1,000 select locations. An app is now available for those who use the smartphones which according to the company is more than a third of their customers.
In the press release from Starbucks vice president of Starbucks Card and Brand Loyalty Brady Brewer said:
“Today, one in five Starbucks transactions is made using a Starbucks Card and mobile payment will extend the way our customers experience and use their Starbucks Card,” said Loyalty. “With mobile payment, the Starbucks Card platform further elevates the customer experience by delivering convenience, rewarding loyalty and continuing to build an emotional connection with our customers.”
By scanning the barcode with the mobile device on the counter-top when making a purchase those with the app will have their purchase taken out of their Starbucks Card platform.
In 2010 more than $1.5 billion were loaded on customer cards. The app can store your credit card information if you choose it to. While this makes it easy to reload your information with just a few clicks if you are uncomfortable about any risk to your credit identity you can add a password to the app. You can also reload your card at
To download the Starbucks Card Mobile App and check out mobile payment, BlackBerry smartphone users can text the word “GO” to 70845 or visit from their device (Standard message and data rates apply.). It’s available for a variety of BlackBerry smartphones including BlackBerry 8800 series; BlackBerry Bold series; BlackBerry Curve series; BlackBerry Storm; BlackBerry Storm2 and BlackBerry Tour.
The program is not available for Android devices. While there are plans for Androids in the works there is no time frame on their availability.
