article imageNCAAF: Stanford goes internal to replace Harbaugh’s

By Kristofor Molson     Jan 14, 2011 in Sports
Stanford - The University of Stanford found a guy that was under Jim Harbaugh and a former player to be the new head coach of the Cardinal. January 13, 2011 the university held a press conference to name David Shaw their new man in charge.
David Shaw a former receiver from 1991 – 94 was also a son of former Cardinal assistant Willie Shaw. This will make the players happy because they asked for the school to look inward to higher their next head coach. This will be a great fit for the university with a great coaching resume from 1997 – to now. Shaw has been with both NFL and college teams, so he knows what it takes especially being around organizations like the Ravens and Eagles.
With Andrew Luck returning next year look for the Cardinal to be ranked high in the National standings. There are many questions, like who will stay on the staff, and can he keep the team a powerhouse in the Pac – 10. We know for sure three coaches that where on the staff have followed Harbaugh to the 49ers. Greg Roman offensive coordinator, Vic Fangio defensive coordinator and Tim Drevno offensive line coach are all coaches that are with Harbaugh in San Francisco.
With these three gone, Shaw has some big spots to fill to keep Stanford going. Shaw says the team will stay the same with a tough aggressive defense and offense. Working under Haubaugh and with those coaches he has learned a thing or two and will look to keep the teams’ schemes the same.
Stanford wanted Boise St Coach Chris Petersen, but he decided to stay at Boise. Greg Roman and Vic Fangio were also interviewed with another former player Tom Williams who was a linebacker for the Cardinal and the coach at Yale.
Stanford’s Athletic Director Bob Bowlsby is happy about the hire feeling that Shaw has the experience, intellect and skill to be a good head coach for the Cardinal.
