Porsche has always been a status symbol auto. With the debut of the 918 RSR that status goes up a notch with a greener car. Fusing together the 911 GT3 R hybrid and the design of the 918 Spyder the company has created a modern sports car.
When the 911 GT3 R Hybrid racing car hit the Germany's Nürburgring Nordschleife, America's Road Atlanta and China's Zhuhai it was an attention magnet.
The latest Porsche racing car brings tradition and the Porsche designers philosophy of "form follows function."
The V8 engine is mid-mounted with an output of 563 hp at 10,300 rpm. The front wheels are powered by two electric motors leading to a peak power output of 767 hp from the hybrid system.
Drivers can get even more power simply by pushing a button that calls up stored energy. That button push deploys energy in bursts of up to eight seconds when the system is fully charged.
What's more the additional power can reduce fuel consumption with the need for fewer pit stops.
