article imageEsteban Nunez's Prison Term Reduced

By Gar Swaffar     Jan 3, 2011 in Politics
Sacramento - Political connections remain a staple of the California political landscape with the current Governor giving a partial commutation of a prison sentence.
In December 2008, Esteban Nunez was arrested in relation to the October 2008 death of Luis Santos.
Esteban Nunez was at the time the 19 year old son of Former California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez..
Governor Schwarzenegger today gave a partial commutation of the sentence Esteban Nunez received after being found guilty in a court of law of the crimes of voluntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon.
Nunez chose to plead guilty to the crimes rather than go through the process of a trial.
Nunez's sentence was reduced from sixteen years to seven years due to what the governor termed the excessive.
In the current legal structure of California it is not required for the Governor to confirm or deny who, if any, person requested the commutation of a legally binding prison sentence. In this case the Former Democrat Speaker is presumed to hold no further political clout in the California Legislature, but is likely to still maintain some connections from his ability to garner a total of $600,000 toward an upcoming run at the post of California State Treasurer.
