By Scott Campbell     Jan 1, 2011 in World
Buildings on Capitol Hill were evacuated after an aeroplane flew in to the protected airspace above Washington DC without authorization.
In an email sent to staff of the Capitol - the home of the US congress - the local police wrote that "an unauthorized aircraft has entered restricted air space" and to "evacuate immediately," according to The Huffington Post.
The FAA reported that the aircraft was a commercial jet that had briefly lost radio contact and all buildings were reopened shortly after the evacuation.
A spokeswoman from the US Capitol Police said that communication had been established with the pilot and investigations will continue after he has landed.
