Leon Walker, a computer technician in Michigan, suspected that his wife was cheating on him and decided to log onto her email and find out the truth. Not only did this cause a divorce, but it is possible he could face up to five years in prison.
After having thoughts that he was being cheated on by his wife, Walker decided to check her email and find more evidence to back up his thoughts. However, his wife went against him once more and got him in trouble with the law for invading her privacy and using her secret password.
Channel 9 News reported that Walker, 33 believes the arrest is 'insane' and 'outrageous' because all he wanted to do was find out if his wife was being unfaithful to him.
He did not feel as though reading her emails was against the law, especially when she freely left her password on a book beside the computer desk, not showing signs that her
email was a secret.
The law which is being used against Walker mainly regards the protections of trade secrets and credit card information, however
Walker's lawyer is arguing that they are over-using these laws by trying to punish the 33 year old man.
The couple is now divorced and Mr Walker's trial will be held on February 7, 2010.
