Playboy founder Hugh Hefner said he had proposed to 24-year old 2009 Playboy playmate Crystal Harris, who is 60 years his junior.
"When I gave Crystal the ring, she burst into tears. This is the happiest Christmas weekend in memory," Hefner tweeted.
Hefner sent a second message on Sunday to clear up any lingering doubts about his intentions.
"Yes, the ring I gave Crystal is an engagement ring. I didn't mean to make a mystery out of it. A very merry Christmas to all," it said.
Harris, a stunning 24-year-old blond, did not explicitly confirm she had accepted his Christmas Eve proposal but, encouragingly, retweeted his messages.
The 84-year-old Playboy boss said of his 24-year-old Playmate: “After the movie tonight, Crystal & I exchanged gifts. I gave Crystal a ring. A truly memorable Christmas Eve.
If the engagement ends up in marriage, it will be Hefner's third marriage. The Playboy Magazine founder was first married to Mildred Williams, a fellow student at Northwestern University in Illinois. Hefner's second wife was Playmate of the Year Kimberley Conrad. He has two children from each marriage.
In 2009, the Playboy business empire had experienced business reverses due to deteriorating economic downturn which led to the closure of its New York Offices.
Obviously the management decision to close shop is part of its cost-cutting measures to keep the business going under an uncertain economic situation.
Over a hundred jobs have been affected by the closure.
It was earlier reported that Hefner is selling his family home in California for $28 million. The 83-year old Hefner lives in his California mansion with three of his models.
After almost two years, Hugh Hefner's Playboy business empire is again on an expansion mode with plans to reopen its U.K. operations at the exclusive Mayfair area of London.
“When we first opened the Playboy Club in London it was one of my favorite times for the brand,” said Hugh Hefner, Playboy Founder, Editor-in-Chief and Chief Creative Officer.
"With Playboy now more popular than ever, I look forward to return to London and again sharing the notions that are celebrated in the magazine, the concept of good food and drink, pretty girls and exciting entertainment."
The Playboy London club is expected to open in 2011.
