Newmarket - A man who assaulted an Ontario police officer during a transportation fraud investigation was arrested yesterday. He hid behind a dumpster.
Tuesday morning police were summoned to Yonge Street and Millard Avenue in Newmarket to locate an assault suspect who attacked a York Region Transit Special Constable. The attack happened while the constable was conducting a transportation fraud investigation. The suspect refused to identify himself before assaulting the constable and fleeing on foot.
Patrol officers found the suspect hiding behind a dumpster close to the scene.
The female Special Constable was taken to hospital where she was treated and released for minor injuries she suffered during the assault.
Hugh Walfall, 30, has been charged with assault with intent to resist assault, obtain transportation by fraud and three counts of failure to comply with probation order.
